Look at Me

Hydrostone, Bronze Patina Stain

Your soul collapsed-
Left you vacant standing there,
holding her hand,
no warmth given back.

Storm clouds form in your organs,
Thunder replaces your lungs,
your paper-mâché skin contains the flood.

Blood carrying enzymes of grief,
alchemizes your heart into paper cranes,
littered about flooded sidewalks.

Days after,
ear drums pierced with sorrow,
Rapid exit from routine.
You sprinkle dust -
where she once stood.

You remember dancing in the rain,
as a young child.
Purposely bolting outside during deluge.

Presently at water’s edge, watching glass boil.
Your paper skin recoils,
at the thought of rain.
